What's for Dinner this week? Tips on how to save on groceries!

SONY DSC

Hello Everyone,
What's for Dinner this week? Many mom hear this question through out the week.. Have you started your menu yet?

I've received several emails from you, asking on how I save and organized?
Every Monday I will be sharing tips on  how, help you succeed at the grocery store.

Here are my tips for you this week. Getting setup to save money and organized.

Follow the steps below to be on your way to cut your grocery bill in half.

1. Check your pantry and fridge before making your list.
(it is important to know what you have before buying)
2. Get the Sunday paper for the coupons.
3.Check online for coupons
4.Set up an email account just for for your coupons.
5.Sign up at your fav mfg sites for coupons, trust me you will be glad you did. I use soymilk every month they send coupon out for a free 1/2 gallon, that's a $3.67 savings a month.
6.Use ziplist to store your menus, and create a shopping list, you can send this list to your phone..
7.Sign up to Rachel Ray newsletter, she sends 7 days meal planning to your email..
8.Sign up for Campbell soup newsletter, amazing dinner ideas using soup.
9.Sign up for Simple magazine monthly meals newsletter.

Here are my easy peasy process:

Wednesdays, I save my grocery stores flyers to check what coupons are in the Sunday paper.. I only carry coupons of items I know I will be using.
Example for Spaghetti I always use rolls, I will cut the Pillsbury coupons, compare the grocery store flyers for maximum savings.

Target, have deep discounts on certain items each week, they also have in-store coupons as well. I save $ by not printing those coupons at home, rather I print them from the gift registry section located at each target.

Here are examples of savings. Stove Top was $49. at the Grocery store it was $1.89. that is a saving of $1.40..

Walmart has free items weekly, with coupons..

I devote 1 hour a week to setting up menu, cutting coupons and getting my list ready, in turn I save regularly between $22-29 weekly on my groceries. Some weeks I save $45.00 when the item is bgofree, then I use a coupon, further deep discount.

Next week I will explore the wonderful world of Drugstore and how they can pay you to shop there.

step 3 - remove tape and stencil

step 4 - apply a little gold glitter to one edge of the the still wet paste and mica flakes to the leaf.

Quench your thirst with this exquisite recipe!

Hi Everyone,
Lately I've had a hankering for something other than water, since I don't drink soda, I've come up with something close but yet, won't send you into a coma from a sugar overdose...
Now I must confess I have a little luxury most of you don't. Unless you are living in a warm climate like me :)
I have 2 grapefruits and oranges  trees in my yard...
creating this drink is easy, but you can always pick up the citrus from the grocers or a fruit stand..

Ready to try this wonderful recipe, that I guarantee will quench your thirst?

Here are your ingredients:

1. Steep 4 the teas in 4c of warm water, for 15 mtes in hot water, not boiling...
2.Remove tea bags, combine the seltzer water and squeeze the grapefruit, stir, add Splenda.
Voila done!

Do you have a drink recipe you live by?

This week Menu

Yahoo was nice enough to create a kewl dinner menu I luv..
The best part is, I have all the ingredients to tweak the menu a bit.
My shopping for the week end up being  $27.89.. Now next week I am going to have to spend more to replenish the pantry. I figured with the upcoming sales it should be no more than $75.00.

What's on your menu this week? How much did you save last week?

Have a great day,
Maggie

The spice of Life and my adventures in the Kitchen! & Gieveaway

Ever since I can remember, spice has been part of my life. My mom believes there's nothing Habanero won't cure (which btw is the hottest pepper on Earth) go figure eh!

When it comes to cooking is it a drudgery for you or an adventure?

You should know it's an adventure for me.

Here's what my journey has been like.
My mom also believes nutmeg and cloves was made to go with everything as well, dinner was like the lottery at my house growing up. With my mom's sense of adventure you never know what type of experiment we will be eating....
Hence my journey and luv affair with spices..

I've had several people asked me what are the most have spice in my pantry..

1 Sea Salt , kosher salt, smoke hickory sea salt
2.Madagascar Pepper
3.Hot Chipotle grind
4. Adirondack Garlic
5.Rosemary/ and  Tandoori Paste

I luv to experiment with all kinds of cuisine from Caribbean to Indian. The spicier the better, but due to my dh not able to eat spicy food I have to tone it down a bit..

People always asked me what is so special about Madagascar peppers? this pepper is intense and spicy with a nutty flavor, this is not your reg pepper from the grocery store. French Chefs swear by this pepper and it also has the ability to enhance what ever flavor. 12 oz will last you a while and the cost vary between $16-19.

Here are my fav recipes using Madagascar pepper.

Bryers vanilla ice cream, fresh cream, cabot yogurt strawberry, strawberries, a pinch of nutmeg, a pinch of Madagascar peppercorn, blend all the ingredient together for a great smoothie..

Strawberries soak in modena balsamic vinegar and ground Madagascar peppercorn, let soak overnight serve with vanilla ice cream....

William Sonoma is currently having a spice celebration...
they have a fabulous spice recipes and combination on their website William Sonoma.

I am giving away a $10.00 Certificate to William Sonoma..

Here 's how to win it..

1.Leave a comment  on your adventures in the kitchen? What spices would you try at William Sonoma?
2. follow the blog and tell your friends about it..

Maggie
