GYPSY - Wine Bottle Wrappers

Hello Everyone! Wow! Thanksgiving is only a week away! Are you ready? This is Tammy and I'm working on it and want to share a project that I made to use as favors for my Thanksgiving dinner guests!  We chose a local wine to serve at our Thanksgiving dinner and bought extra bottles to send home with our dinner guests as a way of saying, 'Thank You' for coming.  I didn't want to cover up the label on the bottles should they like it and want to purchase more in the future.  So, I came up with a wine bottle wrapper that ties onto the bottle with a beautiful ribbon and can be removed for consumption (like my big word? lol!) and to keep as a souvenir of the evening.   



I used the TAGS, BAGS, BOXES & MORE and WILD CARD cricut cartridges.  Using my GYPSY, I was able to re-size the tag to fit around my wine bottle perfectly and layer the frame and sentiment to fit.  I then cut them out with my cricut expression.  See the video below for step-by-step instructions on designing this project on the GYPSY.  You will learn how to (1) re-size images unporportionately, (2) use the new multiple page feature and (3) add an informational page to each of your projects in the GYPSY.

The WILD CARD cartridge has some awesome features and they can be used for more than just making cards!  Below is the HAPPY THANKSGIVING that I used and there are sentiments for almost every holiday and/or event you would encounter.



But my personal favorite feature of WILD CARD is the frames!  Love, love, love all the frame choices!  I couldn't pick just one, so I alternated these three...



Viola!  My wine bottle wrappers are now ready!






I also love using the wider ribbons and this one was perfect for my project.  Really adds a special touch to my place settings on my Thanksgiving dinner table.

  PINK JOURNEY cricut cartridge.




I made these for some friends who are walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-day Walk for a Cure. It takes a special person to make that walk and I personally appreciate what they are doing! While this project is easy, it really helps to have some handy tips that will make the process even easier. I not only show you how to cut magnet material, but I demonstrate it with the 'baby bug' both using the Gypsy and not using the Gypsy. You will also learn how to use the TEMPLATE feature in the Gypsy (love that one!) .

I love this project. So simple to do, but so appreciated!



This is the one I made for my MIL, Edith. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over a year ago and is now a Breast Cancer Survivor! (love you mom!).

PINK JOURNEY: Cutting Magnet Material for a Pink Ribbon Magnet

Fort De Soto and 50 States Cartridges & Shimmerz!

Not many people know that there is more to Florida than just theme parks and sandy beaches.

•  Florida is a thriving state with an illustrious history,and a vibrant future. With all the sunshine   that you could possibly want.

Over the Labor Day weekend, we trekked over to Fort De Soto,which is known as one of the best beaches on the west coast of Florida due to it's calm clear water and beautiful beaches.
While exploring the historic culture of this area, we learned that this little oasis one of the few remaining Garrison forts that survived in Florida. It has been named one of the top beaches by DR. BEACH in the United States.

"Fort De Soto has the only four 12-inch seacoast rifled mortars (model 1890 mounted on 1896 carriages) in the continental United States. Also at the fort are two 6-inch Armstrong rapid-fire rifled guns (model 1898) which were originally mounted at Fort Dade, and are the last two guns of that model year in the United States."

Once we arrived in Pinellas county which was just one hour drive from Orlando, we were able to see in person the rifled mortars that has been in the area for over 113 years.

After I took numerous photos of the area I was eager to start scrapbooking these wonderful landmarks right away. I wanted to keep the layout very simple and let the natural landscape within the pictures shine.
Over the weekend  I participated in a cropping session with Carol who has a Gypsy, and also owned the 50 States Cartridge link onto the Gypsy by Provo Craft. Did you know the cartridge has each state flower, birds etc..
I decided to cut from the Gypsy the Seagull it reminds me of the number of the birds that flocked around waiting for scraps...

TIP
Creating a lay out in less than 15 mtes, is very easy with the help of  pre-made elements, such as buttons, brads, journaling die cut, pre-adhesive ribbon, makes a quick lay out a snap.

After cutting the elements from the gypsy on the Cricut Machine, I used the pumpkin Shimmerz to paint them and add a bit of rustic shine to my elements.

Gypsy Review - Opening a Saved Folder, etc.

Hi Everyone!

This is Robyn, the Pink Stamper, and I have just got to tell you how much fun I am having with my new Gypsy!! This AWESOME machine has exceeded my expectations.

Here is a quick video I made showing how to use a file that you have saved on your Gypsy. If you are on the go and have created something with your "G", it is super easy to open it & cut it once at home or wherever you craft!

Provo Craft Gypsy Review:The good news and the bad!

Hi guys, it's me Linda. I'm here today to write a review on my first impressions of my brand spankin' new Gypsy.

First off, let me give you a short intro from ProvoCraft just in case you're not familiar with this new toy.

Life shouldn't slow down when you get inspired with a good design. Now it doesn't have to with Gypsy, the hand held design studio for Cricut®. Whether you're on the road or just in the backyard, you can escape, be creative, and have fun. Gypsy stores all your Cricut cartridges, making it easy to search and find just the right shapes. Now just so you know, I LOVE MY DESIGN STUDIO!! Design Studio absolutely rocks! I love it so much that I teach DS classes locally so I can share that love with others. So when I found out that a hand held version of Design Studio was being released, I knew right off that I wanted one.

Now fast forward to last week when I received my G in the mail. When I saw who the box was from I swear my heart started pounding! I sat down on the floor and opened it, pulling out each item and admiring its beauty. My mind was whirling with thoughts of creating on the go!

I turned on my G and went through the set up process. Because of my experience with my Palm Pilot, set up was easy but I'm thinking that those without that experience might have a little trouble figuring it out. Now to design something. I quickly found out that there is somewhat of a learning curve to the Gypsy. It was not as easy for me as in the videos and to be honest with you, I'm still having a little trouble maneuvering around in there.

Another issue I have with the G is the tiny screen. I'm um, over, um, we'll let's put it this way, I'm probably old enough to be your mother and my eyesight just isn't what it used to be so the items on the screen are somewhat difficult to see. On the flip side, it's a hand held device so it's not like they can make it any bigger. =\

A positive is that I won't have to tote a zillion cartridges to crops anymore. So you see, there is good and bad and I'm thinking that for some it going to be a love match and for some not.

So what do you think about your Gypsy?

**ADDED NOTE
After struggling with my G and talking to some friends I found out that my box was short the usb that you update the Gypsy with. It's being mailed to me so I'm hoping that once I do the updates some of the issues that I'm having will be resolved. Wonder if they'll send me a users manual? LOL

Part 3 - Gypsy Adventure in Italy

The Gypsy in Siena

Hi, It's Diane again, checking in from Italy where I have been having a wonderful vacation with my husband - and the Gypsy makes three! Steve has been the "Gypsy holder" for all of the photos - he is a very helpful husband!

We left the home of our friends in Milan on Monday morning and headed to the airport to pick up our rental car for the drive to Siena. The weather had turned rainy but we didn't mind since we were traveling. We stopped at some rest areas along the way and at one they were selling these "Pinocchio" jars full of lego-like blocks - aren't they cute and colorful!

We made a mistake in our directions - not really a mistake but we followed a sign for Roma (Rome) - the direction we wanted to go - and it turned out to be the wrong Roma road! Roads on maps don't seem to have numbers, or if they do, you can't find the numbers on the actual road signs - so driving was an adventure!

Eventually, we found our hotel - behind these very impressive gates! The photo to the right is a view from behind the hotel - what a beautiful landscape. The rain had ended around Firenza (Florence) and the light was lovely. (Remember, you can click on any photo to see a larger view).

We were so glad to be out of the car at last that we decided to stay at the hotel for dinner. The food was delicious and I had the most amazing dessert - a "chocolate muffin with cinnamon pear" - basically a hot chocolate cake with molten chocolate - yum! The meal was so rich and we were so tired that we went right to sleep. I woke up after a while and couldn't get back to sleep, so I pulled out the Gypsy and did some designing for a while. It was nice that the Gypsy does not beep or make noises - I could do some designing without disturbing my sleeping husband.

I welded some titles into frames and also tried doing some of the full page designs that I like to make (paper lace). It is a bit trickier to do these on the Gypsy than in Design Studio - you need to pay close attention to the "x" and "y" coordinates to line things up properly. I think there are some software updates that are coming soon that will make these easier to do ( the Gypsy I am using is an early release).

Tuesday we went into Siena and did some more exploring - the photo at the top of this post is the Gypsy at the Siena Duomo - an absolutely stunning cathedral with distinctive black and white marble stripes inside and out. The churches are so ornate and full of art. Here is one inside view.

We saw an amazing display of very old illuminated manuscripts in the Duomo. I never realized how thick the gilding is on the page. This photo was taken through glass so I hope you can get the effect.

Here is another floor tile pattern from inside the Duomo. I am fascinated by all of the intricate patterns - this one is actually rather simple compared to many we have seen. This may very well end up as a Design Studio or Gypsy file that I will share sometime after I return to the States next week.

I was on the lookout for some unique paper items and I found this store in Siena. I bought some cards and bookmarks and some beautiful hand made marbled paper. I plan to try cutting some of it with my Cricut and using it in a few titles for my scrapbook pages.

What would a trip to Italy be without a time out for a bit of gelato? We enjoyed some delicious cold treats in one of the many squares - in front of yet another church!

The Gypsy has been a great travel companion so far - it is useful for getting some titles done while still on vacation and it is also a nice diversion - sometimes I like to make designs just to relax and I don't need to pull out the laptop to do this.

One thing I have noticed as I create more and more files is that it is very important to be thoughtful in the way you name and save the files. I haven't found a way to collect the files in folders. They seem to appear in strict alphabetical order, with numbers before the letters and there is one interesting wrinkle.

If you use a Capital letter at the start of the saved file name those files appear in one list that is then followed by the titles that began with a lower case letter - so there are actually two alphabetical lists. I hope that this may be changed by an update so you can keep groups of files together in folders. So far I have about 50 files, but as the list gets longer and longer it will be harder to find the files quickly.

We have a lot more sightseeing to do in the next few days - where will the Gypsy go next?

Part 3 - Gypsy Adventure in Italy

Project: Gypsy in Italy with Diane - Part 2

Where is the Gypsy now?

Hello everyone, this is Diane. . . the Gypsy wanderer. I am on vacation in Italy seeing the sites and discovering this wonderful new tool, the Gypsy, while we are wandering :)

We arrived in Milan and after a quick stop to drop off our luggage at our friend's home, we all headed into the city to see the sights. We visited the Castillo (castle) and the Duomo (cathedral). Milan is a fashion capital of the world and everywhere we looked, we saw handbags and shoes for sale. Here is one of the most outrageous pair. I don't know the price of these, but one pair we saw was 1500 Euros (about $2,250) - now that's a lot of Cricut cartridges!

Many of the shops are in the Galleria - a very old building similar to the modern shopping mall. This floor grate and tile design was in the Galleria - remember, design ideas are everywhere! I plan to try to design something similar with the Gypsy soon.

Rain was predicted for Sunday but we were very lucky and we were able to take a trip to Lago Maggiore on a beautiful day. Maggiore is a sister lake to Lake Como to the north of Milan. It is a very large lake and the top part is actually in Switzerland.

A very old and wealthy Italian family owns several islands in the lake. On one, Isola Bella, there is an amazing villa and gardens. Here is a view of Isola Bella from the ferry boat. What an amazing place for a "summer cottage."

Here is a larger view of the structure in the garden where I took the photo of the Gypsy at the top of this post. There is a unicorn at the top of this completely over the top centerpiece to the gardens. You can get an idea of the scale from the people in the photo.


We visited a relatively simple church on the "Fisherman's Island" where the workers actually live. There are so many beautiful churches in Italy with amazing artwork in every one of them!

We took the ferry back to the mainland (one more amazing view to the left - those are the Alps). Then we visited Stresa, another town along the lakeside. Our friends wanted to stroll along the lake but I was tired from so much walking, so I was happy to simply sit on a bench and relax.

I pulled out my Gypsy and started to make some titles. It was great to be able to do them while the town names and spellings were fresh in my mind. The Gypsy is so lightweight that it is no trouble at all to carry it along in my bag. I have been using the Gypsy Font for my titles. I like the style and it welds beautifully. Welding on the Gypsy is so quick and easy and I can even tilt individual letters if I want to and still keep them all in the same group. This is a great feature that Design Studio doesn't have yet.

Provo Craft-Gypsy - Wandering with Diane in Europe! Part 1

What's that hiding in the seat pocket on a British Air flight today?
You guessed it - the new Gypsy!

Hi, it's Diane. We left home early this morning to fly to London - on our way to Italy for a long-awaited vacation. I was very lucky to receive a Gypsy to preview just before leaving on the trip - Thank you Provo Craft!

I will be reporting in from the road and letting you know how the Gypsy is working out for me. I already managed to make a "London" title in the Blackletter font - and I even made a shadow for it. With the Gypsy, this is easy to do. I created the title in the regular font first and then saved the file. I opened it as a template and then I could quickly create a perfect shadow.

The Gypsy is so light weight - I expected it to be heavier but it is very comfortable to hold and I could also use it sitting on the fold-down table on the plane if my hand got tired. The screen is very easy to see - you can zoom in as far as you like for great attention to detail. There was no problem with using it on the plane -since it isn't a communications device and no trouble going through airport security either. The Gypsy is a great travel companion so far.

The battery is still about half full - I used the Gypsy for a couple of hours, learning all about the features and figuring out how everything works. Most of the functions are very intuitive and there are help menus built right in. I think someone who hasn't used Design Studio may find it even easier - there are some differences in the way things work and I have spent so many hours using Design Studio that I have had to learn some new tricks - but it is not difficult at all! The power adaptor is multi voltage so I will be able to charge up the Gypsy when we get to our friend's home in Milan tomorrow (I have the cord but the wrong plug adaptor for England tonight).

The flight tomorrow will be short and I will have another chance to experiment with all of the functions - I am really enjoying the grouping feature! The two exclusive cartridges are also great - I had already seen these in the latest update to the Design Studio program. I had to laugh at the perfect match between the Gypsy case and the pillow covers on the plane - Provo Craft is up to the minute on the color trends for this innovative product!

I have very little life left in the laptop battery so I will sign off for now. Where will the Gypsy be seen next...check back here to see soon! (By the way - the photo on the left above is a view of Windsor Castle from the plane window - a bit blurry but it was fun to see it from the air).
