Spring is coming....Dogwood Card

One stencil 3 ways.  This is a series of classes I am teaching at my local store and just love the dogwood stencil.  I love using different techniques on the same stencil to show the versatility....

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope everyone is having a GREAT Valentine's Day!  I am sharing a couple of the cards I have made for Valentine's Day this year! I have used Dreamweaver Stencils and some stamping on the cards.  I love that you can use the two techniques so well together!  So let me get to sharing!

This is the Valentine I made for my hubby.  I used translucent embossing paste for the stripes and mixed the glitter in before spreading.  It gives a very subtle look of glitter rather than tons of glitter! You will see that in the next card!



I stamped the sentiment with Raspberry Versacolor ink.  I love Tsukineko inks!  You will also notice the Gold Krylon edging on the layers!



The shimmer behind the lock is created by stamping the heart by Stampington then embossed with sticky powder by Stampee Crafts.  This is great powder and will NOT feel tacky.  I then put the film, also made by Stampee, over the image and sent it through the laminating portion of the Your Story!  It is a book binder and laminator!  Then you remove the foil to reveal the pretty shimmer!



The key and lock were created by using black glossy paste then sprinkled with glitter.  The next card I share will show a heavy application of glitter.  I cut out the key in detail using the Exacto where needed and layered!  Added the final touches of silver hearts and it there you have it!  By the way..my husband LOVED the card and is making me diner tonight!



This card was created with a lot of the same techniques.  Again I used stencils from Dreamweaver.  I used the little heart stamp by Eureka! for the background and used the products by Stampee.  The paste used was translucent and then I applied full coverage of glitter.  I love this fun design paper from Nikki Sivils' Sugar Cookie collection! Layer, add the banner, pop another heart by Nikki and there you have it!  Happy Valentine's Day to each and every one of you!

I’m excited Valentine is finally here, well sorta in a couple of days. I am beyond excited to let you on a bit of news! I’ve join the amazing staff at Scrap n Art Magazine… Starting next month. As all of you know I worked on the debut magazine for Provo Craft when they were launching the Cricut Circle setting it up etc…

A bit about Scrap n Art!

Scrap n’ Art is a traditional and digital scrapbooking, card making and paper crafting magazine. Our online media format provides eco-friendly access to inspiration for scrapbookers and paper crafters of all skill levels and interests. We are an education based publication that strives to bring our readers information, education and inspiration.

I want to share you with a layout I created today using postcards, since I lost all the pictures during the Hurricanes.

I’m lucky my sister had the postcard I had sent her from Florence still in great condition. When you are preserving your memories there’s nothing that states they must be from a photograph you took, you can easily use postcards, since they must reflect the area well. Another idea if you don’t have any ephemera from the actual city or country.

Use items that reminds you of the country. This layout I use a label from my fav Evoo that reminds me so much of the country side I had seen in Sienna,  added an Italian flag by making sure I had the stripe reflected correctly. I use aluminum foil from Reynolds to create my heart accent.

 

Supplies:

• Dictionary page, Fancy pants stamp, Graphic 45 Alice in wonderland, Martha Stewart punch and travel stamp. Prima chipboard letters
• Straw, Coredination black magic, Recollection bling, Memento ink.
• Reynolds aluminum foil, Ranger alcohol ink. Cricut Machine, Cricut Gypsy, Cuttlebug machine, Victoria embossing folder.

 

 

 

 

How to:

• Cut the heart from your cricut using any font, I use Storybook cartridge.
• Glue the aluminum foil to the heart, emboss with Victoria folder. Add Ranger alcohol ink and add a drop of mixative to lighten the intensity of the colour and blend.
• To create the flag, I use a straw to adhere the Coredination cardstock.

 

Dreamer Layout I stamped the pattern paper with a subtle ink then mist the stamp with Glimmer mist to make it sparkle.

Northridge Media Cricut Magazine Debut - Review!

Hi Everyone,

 

 

The long awaited Cricut magazine is finally on the shelves, and available online as a digital format for $4.95.  $39.95  for 6 issues and a yearly subscription for $74.95.

The magazine live up to Northridge  media publication reputation in providing excellence in inspiration. As always the format remain the same glossy 8x8, very minimal advertising that are not intrusive.

There has been some criticism of not having instructions for the layouts. Northridge media formula as seen on Scrapbook Trends Magazine doesn’t provide  step by step for every layout  that are published in the magazine, unless it’s a feature, as seen with the Cricut Magazine, this is a formula that has worked very well for them and it continues. I’ve been getting Scrapbook trends since 2008 I’ve yet to see step by step for every layout.

I am excited to have been part of the debut of the Cricut Magazine and feature an inspiration to create your own set of dishes, by using your Cricut, cartridges, vinyl and porcelain permanent paint, you can have a whole sleuth of dinnerware to suit your décor, or any occasion.

 

 

Here is the marker I used, once you have cured it in the oven, it will last so far mine still looks good after 3 months of usage. The pens says porcelaine , but they work very well on China, make sure you follow the time frame recommended on the guideline.

 

 

Pros:

• Many beautiful projects to keep you busy for a long time.
• Fabulous ideas to showcase Cricut Carts
• Good use of a mix of cards, home décor, layout, party ideas, something for everyone

Cons:

• Not much was done to the many cuts outside of cutting and gluing down
• Other products in the Provo Craft line were not used to showcase how Cricut works well with them
• The Cricut cake class was good for a beginner, but not for intermediate or if you have own your machine for a while.

I love the magazine and I also love the way they organized the sections with the tab that showcase a house for home décor, baby for the baby section etc…

Back From CHA!!

Hi all...I am back from CHA and it was very good.  For those of you who have not met me I am Kristi Parker Van Doren.   Maggie was kind enough to invite me as a guest blogger and artist for her fabulous blog and I have been posting for her now for some time.  I love Maggie so much as she is so talented, kind and a great person!  So thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts and art on this site.

So, about me...I am a wife, mom and artist.  Like Maggie, I love to cook and be creative in the kitchen as much as I do in my studio!  I started with my stamps and then expanded to stencils when I discovered Dreamweaver Stencils.  Then came other mediums until my mixed media love came to being! Now I love it all!!!  

So let me share with you some of the fabulous things I saw at CHA...for those that don't know, Craft & Hobby Association.  This is the largest gathering of wholesale companies showing the new stuff they have to offer.  I wish that I had more samples of new product but I was on a tight schedule so took what I could.  he trend this year was dress forms and dresses out of different materials!  DCWV had a great example of this.

Back From CHA!!

When It’s cold outside, Warm up with a crockpot meal!

Hi Everyone,

This has been the coldest winter on record in Florida and I don’t mind telling you, it’s cold. I know some of you are currently experiencing really bad weather and I pray that this let up a bit.

Today I have a very simple recipe for you, using the crockpot. I can’t begin to tell you about my luv affaire w/crockpots and how much they make my life easier. I currently have 5 crockpots but I’m looking to upgrade to the more advance ones that allows you to bake in it as well with a baking button feature kewl eh?

Red beans with rice

Here are the ingredients!

Beans, salt, bacon, chicken, onion, parsley,pepper, chicken stocks

Dice the chicken, Add all ingredients in the crockpot for 4 hours, or longer if desired

Let it cook until the liquid is reduced, taste to see if it needs more salt and pepper

Cooked yellow rice, I buy the packages in the rice section.

 

Spoon beans over rice, can you say yummy!

There you go folks this is a hardy dish that will warm you up.

PS you can add a bit of jalapeno in there for more smoking flavor, don’t use Tabasco it’s more of a vinegar taste it will alter it.

Sneak Peek at New Release from Dreamweaver Stencils!

Heading out to CHA in a week!  Time is flying and still not sure I will have enough time to get everything done.  I have been making samples like crazy.  This is one of the new designs from Dreamweaver...well, a couple on the same card!

I used the new owl with the new cage on clear film!  I also used Nestabilites by Spellbinders and a stamp by Great Impressions.  This was inspired sort of by Harry Potter and his white owl!  Hope you enjoy!
