Art for life - Joplin Relief

Hello all,


I personally live about an hour away from Joplin, MO. I am wanting the art community to band together to raise money for this terrible disaster. If you have not heard, the death toll is now at 116. I am asking for donations of anything. The sale/auction will take place right before CHA summer or following so I can get more items for auction. I am working on a certificate of sorts for you to display in your booth if you are a vendor in Chicago or if you have helped in any way. There will be a list of all people that have donated. There is not a donation that is too large or small. There may be some items bundled.

If you have items you would like to donate them send to me . I will be posting on my blog and encouraging others to post as well.

Time to Purge!

I have been going through all my crafty supplies and decided I needed to purge.  I had a big sale today at my home and got rid of a lot and am amazed there is still so very much!  This brought me to many thoughts!

1. Why do we see something and say "oooo pretty, I have no idea what I will do with this, but I must have it!"      FACT:  It is not true that if you die with the most stuff you win!!!  All you have is a lot of stuff your family now has to go through and get rid.  A dear friend of mine shared with me what her husband has planned to say in her obit...Jo died, stamp sale following the funeral!!!

2. I am an ink ho!  You must have the correct ink for the project you are working on.  You DO NOT need every ink pad ever made.  I finally found the ink company love of m life and they make an ink that is suitable for every single need I could ever have.  I have gone to Tsukineko on all pads.  The rest went in the sale! (Some are still left!)

3. Just because you have a coupon you do not have to use it!  I used to get 2 or 3 papers a week to get the coupons.  Then I would go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby and find something to buy.  At times I had an item in mind, but many time walk around until I bought something AND ended up with a bunch of little $1 items I didn't need any way.   FACT: It is for this reason that many of the local,private owned stores are going out of business.  One item does not make a huge difference, but many complain about the store prices but also do not support the stores so the stores close and then the same people complain about the stores being closed!  Don't shop more or use coupons more...shop smarter!

4. Focus on the task at hand.  For me, I am working on things for submissions or companies a lot these days.  I don't buy extra items for a "maybe" future project any longer.  I have 2 large tubs full of future projects so I try to turn a blind eye to other objects/items I can change or decorate.   What are you creating today?  Scrapbooks are different a bit, but don't overwhelm yourself!

5.  If you have too much STUFF around you it is very hard to create!  Although I am many times in the midst of clutter, I try to make sure that clutter is items I can use in my current creations.

6.  Use what you have before you go buy the new next awesome thing!  You may have a new product you forgot you had...CREATE!

7.  Magazines are a wonderful resource.  When is the last time you looked through yours?  Do you have every issue of some?  Are you  inspired by the projects on the pages?  Do you have a subscription and just keep getting more?  Find your favorite issues and share your fun periodicals with someone else.  I have even gone as far to pull some of my favorite projects and file them.  I then pass of the ideas I may not want to save but someone else may LOVE.  I love the extra cleared out space...and on a side note, I will not ever part with my Expressions magazines!  They each speak to me so I am more picky about other publications!

I think over all...have fun and don't stress.  By getting so much clutter and excess out of the way I can focus more on the task at hand.  If you don't want to have a sale then donate some items to a local school, church or nursing home.  I will be giving all of my leftover items to a local university that is raising money with a garage sale in the fall for a student directed play. 

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR CRAFT SUPPLIES TO BETTER YOUR LIFE OR THOSE AROUND YOU?

Good luck and if you choose to purge, do it with a happy heart.  I still think there should be a 12 step program for us creative types!  Or insurance should cover our issues with "collecting" the best and new stuff!

Time to Purge!

New Design from Dreamweaver Stencils!

I am so honored to be part of the Dreamweaver Stencil design team.  All my DT mates are fun and it is such a family feel.  We have been given permission to share some of the new designs so I am sharing here first. 

I am going to share a couple of cards made with the NEW Japanese Maple Leaf.  Any one that knows me knows that I love leaves of any kind!  This design is awesome so let me show you the first card!

I used a "sludge" technique with gold and copper embossing paste over the stencil.  While the paste was still wet I added some clear micro beads.

I trying to make sure that the leaves were not completely covered by the beads but more on the edges!  I love this new stencil!  And of course, I had to had the rhinestones to the side! 

This is a little bonus card using the leaf and fan stencil.  I used the double glitter technique on the background.  Then I used PanPastels on the fan to stencil the leaves on the fan.  I finished the fan off by going over the image with translucent paste.  Love this design!  Thanks Lynell for coming up with great designs!

New Design from Dreamweaver Stencils!

Kanban Creative Papers and punch outs!

I have to tell you, I was so very excited after seeing Kanban at CHA winter and was thrilled when my local stores, Scrapbook Generations   (Springfield, MO) and Scrapbooks Forever (Branson, MO) started to carry this GREAT product line.  Some of the punch outs have matching paper and some have a base card.  They are just so cool.  I am going to share a couple of cards I made in the last few days!

These are GREAT designs to play with and create some wonderful 3D cards and scrapbook pages.  Other than papers that came in the Kanban packages, all paper is by Worldwin!  I love the Petallics by Worldwin and they really set off some of the cards.  My other fav is DoubleMates, two sided paper with no white core~!  Hope you enjoy the eye candy and have a wonderful Easter Weekend!

Fun With Dreamweaver and Goosebumps!

Love the April Showers!!!

This is a card I am teaching later today at my local Scrapbook Store!  It is so fun to find new and exciting ways to use Dreamweaver Stencils! I started by actually tracing the stencil and then colored in the umbrellas.  Next I used my glossy black paste to emboss the single umbrella.

Add a little ribbon and a phrase from Nikki Sivils "It's Raining, It's Pouring" collection and the card is done.  Well so I thought!  I found  a new little touch.  Susan at Tsukineko has introduced me to Goosebumps!  It is a fun texture spray and I love it!

On this card it actually looks like rain drops!  And this is DRY!!!  I am learning more about this GREAT product.

I just can't get over how much it looks like rain drops! 

I hope you liked this card and this fun new product.  As always, Tsukineko is on top of the game with fun new innovative products!

I just had the most amazing 2 weeks! I was privileged to help the students at Evangel University here in Springfield, MO with their production of "Hello Dolly"! My good friend Casey July did the costumes. She did a fabulous job. I was honored to assist her!  

This is us after the final show.  Set is already being striked as we finish taking a few photos!

I have been making some notes for some of the people responsible for Dolly and these are the cards I have come up with so far! All card stock is provided by WorldWin and the decorative paper and focal images are by KANBAN! Of course I had to add bling!!

Treasure box for Spring

Hi Everyone,

The party continues this week with my Daughter being on Spring break. Are you hanging out in style? We’ve had a plethora of hungry teen in the house. I will be sharing a quick and easy recipe with you today, along with a box of treasury that I created for 4 of my daughter’s friends.

Treasure box I created for my daughter and her friends, to gather treasures this summer! I’ve seen the 7gypsies boxes all over this spring, some put atc cards in the box, others collect embellishments. I had my DH create one for me out of plywood. It measures sides are 6.5wx14.5lx6.5h. The best part is you can create this to fit any size you want.

 

 

Paint box, let dry.

 

Cut paper from old book, use spray adhesive like 3 m.

Paint over the old book page, drill a hole in the center using Fiskar drill.

Voila done, your very own drawer box

 

Shepard's pie was a big hit with the teens at my house :) I use a Martha Stewart recipe, which I changed a bit, added more veggies, used Mozzarella instead of Cheddar, instant mash potatoes and heavy cream, unsalted butter :)

Spring Break 2011 & Recipes!

Hi Everyone,

Happy Spring break 2011, my dd will be out of school this weekend, we are starting to have hot and hotter temperature, perfect for a beach outing.

Speaking of outing have you seen the contest GCD Studios is currently running?

Using your stash, this stamp sheet is over 3 years old. I am determine to start using my older stash. I found this huge Music Hymn book at Salvation Army, I use the deacidifier to spray the sheets before I cut , 18 circles from Cricut Mini Monogram. Spritz them w/glimmer mist, ink the edges, scrunch them a bit then added brads and pearls to the center.

Added an old K & Co epoxy sticker

 

 

Create this lo in less than 10 mtes by using premade die cuts.

 

Use Diamond dust on a chipboard letter for a glittering  monogram.  Be careful of Diamond dust it is very fine.

Wednesday!

 

 

Ingredients:

Tortillas,Black Beans, Corn, Mexican Cheese, Ground beef, Cilantro, Onions, Tomatoes, Cumin, chili powder, Chipotle powder.

Brown ground beef, add Cilantro, Onions, Tomatoes, Cumin, chili powder, Chipotle powder, Tomatoes, Black Beans, Corn.

In a rectangle dish pan layer the tortilla and add ground beef, then cheese, keep layering until you are done.

bake at 350 for 20mtes.

Voila done!
