Some thoughts & More

This is another background that I actually came up with out of necessity. I was working at a store that was getting ready to close and never ordered in new product so I had to learn use what we had in new and creative ways. I actually submitted this to a publication years ago and they returned everything except the samples and then a couple of months later there was my technique. Oh well! I know the facts and now you do as well!

As you can see I have Diamond Glaze (a.k.a. Crystal Lacquer, Crystal Accents, Glossy Accents etc...) And then you need a variety of colors of re-inkers. You will also want to have your background card stock cut and ready.
Place a small amount of of the glaze on the foil. Add a few drops of color to the glaze.

Fold the foil up and mix the colors.

Unfold the foil and expose the color. Press the papers on the glaze and move around until they are covered well. Lift them off the foil and let dry.

Try other color combinations! You can make some amazing backgrounds with this tech!

Book I am Teaching in Topeka, KS

October 1st & 2nd I will be attending a fundraising event in Topeka, Ks. This is to raise money for Hospice care. Midland Care provides Hospice care to anyone in need regardless on income. Hope you like this project well enough to come to the crop and take the class. It is the bare bones of the mini album I posted 2 weeks ago...you will learn how to make this great album using the Score-It tool and fun paper!

I am on a different computer than usual so I do not have my photo...oh well.

Book I am Teaching in Topeka, KS

One Page Of a Mini Album

A great friend of mine introduced me to this style of album making. It has pockets, tags and lots of places to hide your hidden treasure. When the album is complete it will have 5 fold out pages with lots of goodies and tags. You can use it for photos or for just a fun book of found objects or a combination of both.

Love using the thickers and stamps. Added an aging element with Clearsnap inks!
More stuff with using Smooch inks and cut outs!

Another cut out but using multi-color leaf for the key hole and bling of course! One of my favorite things to do is add color around the edges with a stipple brush and love the Chestnut Roan Chalk ink. This is a great project to make and you need 6 x 9 envelopes, A10 envelopes, Score-It and great tape! One Page Of a Mini Album

Just A fun Card

Hello everyone! I have been going crazy trying to get all the details hammered out for the crop but did make some fun backgrounds for some upcoming submissions! This is using shaving cream, re-inkers and little else!
I put a small amount of shaving cream on a clean surface.

Next I add a few drops of ink randomly over the shaving cream.

I then take my palette knife and "slice" through the ink in a couple of different directions.

I take the paper/card stock and place it face down on the shaving cream mixture and press until the card stock is flat on the work surface.

I lift the paper off and scrape off the excess foam with the palette knife and let dry.

You can use the same mixture over and over until it becomes too muddy. I often like the 2nd or 3rd dipping best.

I stamp my images on the background, layer images, layer the paper etc and put my card together! The stamps used here are from Prickley Pear. I used a little leaf button to finish the project.

If you have seen this before I hope I brought it back to the fore front of your mind and make some great backgrounds. If not, go make a mess and have a blast!

Just A fun Card

How The West Was Fun!

This card was created out of inspiration for our Vacation Bible School theme and sending some items to Dreamweaver Stencils. Not to mention the use of the Score-It-All!

I used the Score-It for the base card and then again for deciding the width of the paper strips. I put a little score mark on the paper and then did not have to think when I went to my trimmer!

I started with the bandanna paper by K & Co. Got out my cool stencil and black matte paste. I taped the stencil down with the low tack tape and smeared on the paste. I love it! It is like spreading butter cream frosting! I removed the stencil and glittered the words and set it aside to dry. ( I had a tub of water to toss the stencil and palette knife in to keep the the paste from drying on the stencil.)

I got my base card prepped and folded using the Score-It and then cut my paper strips. I got all the strips attached to the card front and let the project sit for about an hour to give the paste time to dry completely.

When I came back I was able to trim the stenciled piece to the size desired. I then layered that piece on a cream piece of card stock and attached to the card front with pop dots.

As I looked at my card I thought it was nice but seemed to be missing something. I went to my stamp drawer and found a great stamp from The Peddler's Pack. I stamped the hat and trimmed it out. Still missing something...I stippled on a little color. Better, but not there yet. Then it hit me...I needed the leather band on the hat! Well the cool leather is braided so I then had the challenge how to make the "leather" and finally came up with this. I took three strands of white string and braided them. Next I ran the string through brown and black ink to get the desired color. Finally, I dipped the string in clear embossing powder and heated.

I now had my "leather" braid for my hat. I cut it to the size I wanted and was pleased to discover the embossing powder had fused all the strings so no ravel issues! I raised the hat high on two sets of pop dots and attached to the card!

I was happy with the result and thrilled to have a new idea pop in my brain!

This is a fun card that combines stamping and using fun papers to make a simple card look very elegant. I love the paper stacks that all the paper goes together! In this case it is DCWV the Miraposa stack. I am convinced the more layers you can add the better the card or project will look.

This is a card style I may be teaching at the fun crop here in Springfield. Yes, a shameless plug. I am getting excited for this event as I have some big names donating signed projects including Pam Carriker, Lisa Bebi, Crystal Jeffrey Rieger and Tim Holtz. I have more coming in every day! Clay & Cutting & Stamping OH MY

Well, I promised you a more complex project this week so here it is! This is an altered Composition Book. There is a lot to this one so here it goes.

I started with all black clay. I used Premo Brand. I conditioned the clay in my pasta machine and then divided the clay. I set aside the solid black and then used multi color leafing on the the clay. I started on a thicker setting and just added leafing until I got the desired look rolling the clay thinner each time. I rolled the pieces as thin as possible without the clay falling apart. (about a 2 depending on the machine)

The next step is to partially bake the clay. You do not want it to be brittle or it will not cut well...trust me on this one! I baked mine for 7 minutes. I removed the clay, let it cool and then cut your shapes. I used my CuttleBug to do the cutting with triangle nest abilities.

So I have all these large and small triangles. I used matching small and larger stamps from Prickley Pear to stamp the solid black triangles with Encore Gold ink. I then finished baking the clay which also set the ink. Once out of the oven and cooled I edged each piece with Gold Krylon.

I used a combination of glue and red line tape. I started in the middle and worked out. I just work one side then the other. I did have some hang over so I used and Exacto to carefully trim the edge.

I added more leafing to the project on the spine with double stick tape.

I found fiber in my fiber drawer that looked good with the project and attached some beads I also made from clay and attached with really strong glue. I use a lot of glue from Art Institute. It dries clear and is very strong.

I then put a line of glue along the outside edge and placed small mosaic tiles down. These are great if you can find them. I got these from The Stencil Collection but don't think the have these tones in stock. They do have some really pretty ones available!

My final step was to mix a very small amount of resin epoxy by Envirotex and brush it over the entire front of the journal. It filled in any gaps that I had missed and gives a cool texture to the finished project.

Hope this was worth the wait! I love doing fun and different things.
